OUR STORY
Glow Church stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness and continues to impact lives around the world.
It all started in a living room in Newton Aycliffe back in 1967. A few families gathered to pray, share meals and dream about what God might do in County Durham.
The vision kept growing. By the early 2000s we’d outgrown every borrowed hall in town, so we built the Xcel Centre—a purpose-built venue that now hosts conferences, a first-class childcare nursery (Little Cubs) and a coffee shop (rumoured to serve the best flat white in town).
In 2021 we stepped into something bigger. We partnered with Glow Church, an expanding church started on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2013 by Ps Joel & Ellen Cave, known for their rallying cry of REAL BOLD LOVE. Taking the name Glow UK links us to a global family while keeping our roots right here in the UK.
What hasn’t changed? Our heartbeat: helping people encounter Jesus, build authentic community and live out their purpose.
What does it look like today? Any day of the week you’ll find the building buzzing—toddlers thriving in Little Cubs, baristas pulling shots in Trio, local businesses hiring rooms, and teams preparing for Sunday gatherings.

Andrew & Louise Cherrie
Lead Pastors
Andrew and Louise have been married for 28 years and are the proud parents of five children.
Andrew brings decades of strategic vision combined with a unique gift for clear and authentic communication. Louise is a gifted speaker and the author of Living in the Stretch: A Mother’s Story of Courage, Children and Change, a heartfelt exploration of motherhood and resilience.
Together, Andrew and Louise host their original parenting show Toddlers, Teens & Inbetweens on TBNUK.

John Greenow
Associate Pastor
John is married to Lisa and are proud parents to three sons—Ben, Jack, and Jonas. John brings a wealth of wisdom, warmth, and leadership experience to everything he does.
With over three decades in church leadership, John has pastored through seasons of growth, challenge, and change.
In his current role, John leads the People Care and Discipleship at Glow UK, and is passionate about helping people flourish in their faith and relationships.

Katie Earley
Kids Director
Katie is married to John and they are the proud parents of three beautiful girls — Ezzie, Freya, and Alice.
A qualified primary-age teacher with 15 years of experience working with children and families, Katie brings passion, skill, and understanding of child development to every environment she leads.
Alongside overseeing our kids ministry, Katie serves as the Safeguarding Lead at Glow UK, partnering with parents, families, and the wider community to build faith foundations that last a lifetime.

Max Cherrie
Youth Pastor
Max is a passionate and energetic leader with a heart for the next generation.
With over six years of youth ministry experience, most recently at Glow Youth, Max brings creativity, authenticity, and strong theological foundations to his leadership. He holds a BA in Theology and Christian Leadership and is committed to seeing young people discover their God-given purpose.
Outside of ministry, Max loves the creative arts, spending time with friends and family, and cheering on his beloved Newcastle United.

Rachael Mawston is the Glow Teams Director at Glow Church UK. She helps people find their place to serve, stay healthy while they do it, and ensures every volunteer is supported and thriving.
With a real passion for people and a natural gift for leadership, Rachael creates a culture at Glow where teams grow, leaders are developed, and church feels like home.
Rachael is married to David, and they are the proud parents of three children.

Worship Director
Ben Clack is the Worship Director at Glow Church UK. A gifted musician, worship leader, and creative, Ben carries a heart to see people encounter God through authentic and powerful worship.
He leads and develops the worship team with excellence, passion, and a deep commitment to creating an atmosphere where faith is stirred and Jesus is central.
Ben is married to Alice, and together they are the proud parents of three children.

Based in Australia, Joel and Ellen Cave have been married for 24 years and are proud parents of 3 children. In 2013, they founded Glow Church in Australia and now serve as the Senior Pastors of Glow UK.
Joel is known for his innovative thinking and Ellen has a heart for bringing people together to walk confidently in their God-given purpose. Their leadership continues to shape the culture, language, and vision we’re building and living out here in the UK.
